Digital Video Camera – Flash or Tape?
I’m quite new to the complex world of digital video cameras, but I’m wanting to purchase one.
I will use it to record things, then transfer the film to my Mac and/or PC to do quite a heap of editing. Video quality is very important to me but I can’t afford High Definition (so I’m looking at Standard Definition.) I do like to record in Widescreen (16:9), so a camera that can easily do this, and do it well, would be great.
I want to be able to plug in an external microphone when I want to, and anything with low battery life annoys me very much.
I’m hoping I’ll find something that suits me and is under $500. I don’t know if Flash or Tape suits me better.
Any specific camera recommendations are much appreciated!
If you want good video quality and you’re planning to do a lot of editing you need as near to a lossless format as you can get – that means MiniDV. Flash media use very lossy compression methods so they’re not for you.
